Broker Responsibility Train-the-Trainer: The Real 2027-2028 Schedule

Heard the Broker Responsibility train-the-trainer is happening in July? It isn’t. July is when the registration website updates. The training itself runs in the fall. Here is the real schedule, straight from TREC.

We did not pick this up from a newsletter. We called the education department at TREC directly, and they asked us to help get the correct word out.

So here it is, straight. When you teach with Expert Classroom, you hear the real schedule from us, not the rumor mill.

What Train-the-Trainer Is

Every cycle, TREC updates the Broker Responsibility Course. Before an instructor can teach the new version, you complete TREC’s train-the-trainer for that cycle. It is how you stay certified to deliver the current Broker Responsibility material to the brokers and agents in your classroom.

This is a continuing tradition for our instructors. We keep this page current every cycle, so you always know exactly when registration opens, when the sessions run, and where to be. Everything below covers the 2027-2028 Broker Responsibility Course cycle.

New Rule – Effective January 1, 2026

Every Broker Now Needs This Course

Senate Bill 1968, passed by the 89th Texas Legislature, changed who has to take the Broker Responsibility Course. As of January 1, 2026, every Texas broker must complete it to renew an active license, whether or not they supervise or sponsor a single agent. A broker who runs a one-person office and is their own only agent never had to take it before. They take it now.

Two things did not change. Anyone who supervises one or more license holders for six months or more still has to take it, even a sales agent who is not a broker. And anyone applying for a broker license now has to complete it before they are licensed.

For our instructors, that is the headline. The room of brokers who need this course every cycle just got a lot bigger, and so did the reason to be the one teaching it.

It Changed, and It Got Better

For years, this training ran through Texas A&M. TREC brought it in-house to take more control of the course and how it is taught. That decision has already paid off for instructors.

Here is the proof. This cycle the sessions start in September. They used to start in October. Getting trained that close to the end of the year always made instructors nervous, with the deadline bearing down. The current Broker Responsibility course expires December 31, 2026. Starting in September means you can finish on time, without the year-end scramble. Credit where it is due: thank you, TREC.

It Is Not Just Austin

Do not let the registration page fool you. Right now it still shows the past spring sessions at UT Austin, so it can look Austin-only. It is not.

TREC travels the state for this training. Fort Worth at GFWAR is already confirmed, with more cities to post. Thank you, TREC, for bringing it to us instead of making everyone drive to Austin.

The 2027-2028 Cycle Schedule

How the CE Credit Works

The credit works exactly the way you would expect.

  1. 1You earn elective CE for attending the training itself.
  2. 2Once you teach the new Broker Responsibility course after January 1, 2027, you submit an instructor credit request in TREC’s REALM portal for the non-elective credit.
